With FC Barcelona star Ivan Rakitic seemingly siding with Luka Modric over Lionel Messi as the best player in the world in recent weeks, the midfielder has now clarified his recent comments.
Reports: Barca Star Accused Of Being A Party Animal
In the build-up to the FIFA awards evening in London last month, Rakitic stated that he believed his Croatian colleague Modric was more deserving of the Best Men's Player prize than Messi or anybody else was.
With his statements causing quite a stir, the Barca midfielder has now insisted that even Modric knows that Messi is different to every other player in the world.
"With all due respect to other players who have won (things), we know there is a player who is different to the others and that is Leo Messi," Rakitic said, according to Barca Blaugranes.
"Sometimes there are circumstances like Luka Modric having an outstanding season, and maybe people want to change things up a bit.
"But, with all the respect in the world towards Luka and the others, there's a player who is different to everyone else – and that's Leo Messi."
'I've Always Preferred Ronaldo To Messi'
Messi has been in terrific form for Barca so far this season, having contributed to 15 goals in 10 matches already.
