France manager Didier Deschamps could reportedly be set to make a huge decision on Kylian Mbappe.

Mbappe's future as France captain remains uncertain heading into 2025, following his absence during the last two international breaks.
According to L'Equipe, Les Bleus manager Deschamps is set to have talks with the Real Madrid striker regarding his desire to continue leading the national team.
Deschamps – a former France captain himself – is reportedly keen to understand whether the responsibility has become too much for Mbappe, and if wearing the armband is impacting his time with the squad.
The French media outlet also adds that Deschamps is aware of the rumours suggesting that Mbappe has considered stepping down from the captaincy. Should Mbappé express his intention to keep the role, there is little reason to believe Deschamps will strip him of the honour.
However, if Mbappe confirms he no longer wishes to hold the captain's armband, Deschamps will be forced to appoint a new leader.
Mbappe's potential successor is expected to be one of Aurelien Tchouameni, N'Golo Kante or Ibrahima Konate, all of whom have worn the captain's armband in the recent international fixtures.
L'Equipe reports that Konate's leadership qualities have impressed members of France's backroom staff, especially during the November international break, which saw a shift in dynamics within the squad.

The Liverpool centre-back captained France to a 3-1 victory against Italy on Monday, and it is believed that he could be a strong candidate to take over the armband permanently, should he secure his place as an undisputed starter for Les Bleus.
