The Brazil international recently criticised the Real Madrid forward for being too much of an individual, and that the Portuguese does not deserve a spot on the three-man podium as a result.
Alves has now picked his favourite of the three finalists, and thinks the Argentine will win the award easily.
"I see Messi winning his fifth Golden Ball – and with a big advantage," he told TVE.
"He is far ahead of everyone, particularly in the influence he has on the team. The best players in the world do not have to be individualistic.
"Our team was strong before Messi's injury but he has come back and proven to be competitive far beyond the other players on the pitch."

Messi could win his fifth Ballon d'Or in January, while Ronaldo is in the running to equal the Argentine's four wins.
