According to Marca, Ronaldo actually cost Real Madrid €104.7 million (R1.87 billion), and not just €91 million (R1.63 billion), as was widely reported.
The Spanish publication claimed that Ronaldo's fee was paid in three instalments and that the club had to take out loans to complete the deal. They claim the interest on these loans took the overall transfer fee to €104.7 million.
Football website Football Leaks had confirmed that Bale's fee was €101 million (R1.80 billion), which would have beaten Ronaldo's original fee.
There has been no official confirmation of the new amount for Ronaldo's transfer fee, and some experts have suggested that the new number is being circulated with a view to boosting the Portuguese superstar's ego.

It has also been claimed that Ronaldo wants to be remembered as the world's most expensive transfer, which is why the new details of his transfer have been revealed just days after Bale's actual fee was leaked.
