The former Blaugrana captain believes his former teammate Messi should win the award, adding that it's possible the Argentine could one day retire with more than five Ballons d'Or.
"You never know what will happen in the end, but it would be a big surprise and a huge injustice if Messi did not win the Ballon d'Or," he told Barcelona's official website.
"The best thing about him is that he goes on developing and breaking new records. He is now a complete player and he seems not to have any limits.
"It is difficult for any other player to manage to win five Ballons d'Or. But, besides that, Leo Messi is not going to retire tomorrow and if he wins on Monday, and goes on like this, he can go on winning.
"So five Ballons d'Or may not be the end of it."
