An opponent has revealed what FC Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi said to him during an angry exchange of words in the Catalan club's Copa del Rey clash against Espanyol on Wednesday night.

Defender Alvaro Gonzalez told reporters about his conversation with the Argentine after he had fouled him, but added that not too much should be read into the incident.
"Leo was criticising me for some things, and I some others," he told reporters.
"I asked him if he thinks I will hurt him, and he said yes.
"He told me that I was bad, and I told him he was short. But both accepted it, laughed, and left it at that.
"There's no need to make a big deal of anything. What happens on the pitch stays there and that's it.
"The best thing about these derbies is the healthy rivalry we have."

Barca advanced to the next stage of the cup competition after beating Espanyol 6-1 on aggregate.
