Ten Hag Praises Benni, Reveals His Impact

Ten Hag Praises Benni, Reveals His Impact

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has showered former Cape Town City manager Benni McCarthy with praise, explaining what Bafana Bafana's record goalscorer brings to his coaching staff.

Retired SA Star Gives Analysis On Benni's Man United Impact

The ex-DStv Premiership head coach has been credited with the turnaround in form of the Red Devils' attacking players, with Marcus Rashford, in particular, having been in impressive scoring touch since McCarthy's appointment last year.

A number of first-team players, such as Rashford, Anthony Martial and Christian Eriksen, have had positive things to say about McCarthy in recent times, and now Ten Hag has spoken about the "great job" the South African is doing behind the scenes.

"In our coaching staff, we had a lot of defenders and midfield players. I wanted also to find a good balance," he said during a recent fan QA.

"He is offensive [minded] as he is a former striker and that is also a really specific job task in the team.

"I never played there, so I'm lucky to have someone in my staff who played there.

"Football is about scoring and you have a goalkeeping specialist, but you also have offensive specialists and, in particular, we have a specific scoring trainer.

"He has to add that, in details, working and for the rest of us, he has a relationship to all the players in our squad.

"He also has to work on the togetherness and he is doing a great job on that."

Benni's Impact On Rashford Hailed By Man Utd Legend

Rashford has already scored 16 goals in all competitions this season for United, more than double his entire tally from the previous campaign, while Martial, Alejandro Garnacho and Bruno Fernandes have also contributed to the team's return to form in the Premier League.
