Retired SA Star Gives Analysis On Benni's Man United Impact

Former Bafana Bafana and Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Matty Pattison feels Benni McCarthy has played an important role in Manchester United becoming a more settled team under manager Erik ten Hag.

McCarthy was roped in before the start of the season by the former Ajax Amsterdam manager and has been credited for inspiring the renaissance of striker Marcus Rashford, who is in the form of his life at the moment.

McCarthy is understood to have been playing a big part in restoring the player's confidence and he is expected to play a key role, with United still in with a chance of winning the English Premier League title for the first time since Sir Alex Ferguson brought his glittering career at the club to an end in 2013.

"It's great for South Africa, you know. It's good to see him there and obviously Ten Hag must have real trust and belief in him to give him such a key role. You can see that it's already paying dividends with the likes of Rashford and Martial. He must be doing something right," Mattison told the Siya crew.

"If you look at him back in his career, he was a fantastic striker and it's great that he has gone on to do all his (coaching) badges. It's only good for South Africa really. I can only see Man United growing from strength to strength. They seem like they have a settled team, and it's looks like they are going to start kicking on."
