According to The Guardian, the Red Devils are eager to complete a deal with Tottenham Hotspur for the England captain early in the upcoming transfer window.
Manager Erik ten Hag is believed to be a big fan of the forward and has made him United's top target as he believes Kane can help his side challenge for the Premier League title.
Buying the 29-year-old will, however, not be easy because Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is a notoriously tough negotiator and having seen what looked like a promising season dissipate into an underwhelming campaign, the English executive is under increasing pressure turn the club's fortunes around.
The Lilywhites are on course to finish an English top-flight season in eighth place or lower for the first time since the 2008/09 season, and while Levy would like to keep Kane, he runs the risk of losing the three-time Premier League Golden Boot winner for nothing at the end of next season.
The same report claims that there are currently no suggestions that Kane is willing to extend his contract in the English capital, opening the door for a potential United swoop.
Ten Hag is also said to appreciate Napoli talisman Victor Osimhen, but the Nigerian's reported price tag of €150 million (R3.1 billion) may be out of reach for United's administration.

Another Serie A striker the EPL giants have been heavily linked with of late is Atalanta's Rasmus Hojlund. While the English outfit do reportedly like the Dane, it is believed the club thinks he is too young to start regularly for them and that they would need to sign another forward alongside him as a result.
