After joining the Red Devils in January 2000 from Spanish giants Atletico Madrid, the ex-Bafana Bafana international went on to represent the Manchester club on 126 occasions over the course of five and a half years.

In England, Fortune claimed three trophies under Sir Alex Ferguson's management, including the Premier League title in 2003.

Speaking recently on The Overlap podcast hosted by Gary Neville, a fan question put to the panel asked which of their former teammates surprised them the most in training.

After former Premier League Ian Wright spoke highly of ex-Arsenal colleague Paul Merson, Keane recalled the difficulty of going up against Fortune in practice sessions.

"Do you know who was tough to play against at United in training? Quinton Fortune," he explained.

Ian Wright then asked: "Was he strong?"

Keane replied: "Ah, strong? F****** hell, one vs one, he was tough, wasn't he? Quinton was a tough lad in training, in one vs ones, tough."
