FA Cup Report: Tranmere Rovers v Manchester United 26 January 2020

Result: Tranmere Rovers 0-6 Manchester United

Date: 26 January 2020

Venue: Prenton Park

Manchester United progressed to the fifth round of the FA Cup with an emphatic 6-0 thrashing of Tranmere Rovers on Sunday evening.

Nnited made six changes from their loss to Burnley, as only Harry Maguire, Phil Jones, Nemanja Matic, Andreas Pereira and Anthony Martial retained their places while young forward Mason Greenwood was handed a start.

The Red Devils got off to a bright start as Maguire opened the scoting in the tenth minute with an unstoppable strike from 30-yards out that swerved to the top corner.

United got the second goal three minutes later after full-back Diogo Dalot combined with Anthony Martial before smashing low strike into the bottom corner.

The Premier League giants showed no mercy to Rovers, as Lingard  bagged the third goal within three minutes of the second with a curling strike from 25-yards out that found the top corner.

There was enough time for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's charges to grab a fourth goal as Phil Jones got a rare goal by nodding home a cross from Pereira.

Martial joined the party for United as he made got on the score-sheet on the stroke of half-time with a curling effort from the edge of the box that flicked off Peter Clarke and swerved to the top corner.

The visitors took their foot off the gas a bit early in the second stanza but were awarded a penalty ten minutes after the break after Rovers goalkeeper Scott Davies brought down second-half substitute Tahith Chong inside the box.

Greenwood was given a chance to get on the scoresheet and he didn't disappoint, as he sent Davies the wrong way with a right-footed finish from 12-yards out to make six for United.

Chong came close to adding a seventh  in the last four minutes but the Dutchman's powerful left-footed strike came off the crossbar as the Red Devils cruised into the next round.
