A European club has made a decision on a possible move for Paul Pogba, who will be available to return to action in March next year.

The former Manchester United midfielder is on the hunt for a new club as he looks to make his return to professional football. However, that club will certainly not be fellow INEOS-owned OGC Nice.

Pogba's journey since leaving Old Trafford for the second time has been widely reported. The 31-year-old has not played professionally since the 2022/23 season, following a suspension due to doping allegations.

Despite always maintaining that the use of banned substances was not intentional, his ban was eventually reduced, with a return to action now set for March.

The 91-time France international has been focusing on rebuilding his fitness in preparation for a comeback. The only hurdle, however, is that Pogba is currently without a club, having been released by Juventus following his return to the Italian side.

With reports suggesting that the Frenchman is keen to play at the highest level once again, speculation about a possible return to United has been rife. However, INEOS, who own both the Red Devils and Nice, will have the final say on this matter.

Speaking to L'Équipe, Nice's sporting director Florian Maurice confirmed the club would not be pursuing Pogba, explaining: "To be completely honest, I don't think we have the possibility to bring Pogba to Nice today." However, he hinted that the decision may not be down to a lack of desire, but rather financial constraints.

Maurice continued: "I think that lots of clubs will be looking into this deal, even if it's been quite a while since he has played. I think there will be a lot of competition and I don't think that we are able to fight to bring such a player to OGC Nice."
