Earlier this week, Soccer Laduma were the first to report that the Spanish giants had made enquiries about the availability of the 20-year-old South African international.

It's Barcelona's B team that's believed to be keeping a close eye on Mofokeng, who was named Young Player of the Season for the 2023/24 campaign.

Barcelona B is the club's reserve team, a platform that has given many famous names their starts in professional football.

The promising attacker has been making waves at Pirates, which earned him opportunities with the national team under coach Hugo Broos, although he is still waiting for his first start with Bafana Bafana.

Following our exclusive story, several high-profile Spanish outlets have picked up on the interest in Mofokeng.

Get Spanish Football News headlined their article, "Barcelona join transfer hunt for Relebohile Mofokeng," while Mundo Deportivo referred to him as "The new South African pearl, linked to Barca."

In their report, Mundo Deportivo highlighted Barcelona's growing interest in African talent, praising Mofokeng for his "speed, technical ability, and quick decision-making in the final third."

Diario Sport also reported on the young winger's connection to the LALIGA giants, comparing him to 17-year-old Barcelona sensation Lamine Yamal.

It's also worth noting that Mofokeng's name has already drawn attention from abroad. In 2023, he went on trial at Wolverhampton Wanderers in England, and Spanish side Levante, as well as Scottish giants Rangers, have reportedly been closely monitoring his progress.

Famous for their famed La Masia academy, Barcelona's current first-team group consists of several academy graduates, including Gavi, Fermin Lopez, Ansu Fati, Lamine Yamal and Alejandro Balde.

The club's financial situation has seen many of these youngsters fast-tracked into the senior squad, which has rewarded both the Catalans and the Spanish national team.
