The Parisians came close to taking the lead in the 19th minute. They broke away on the counter attack and Angel Di Maria found Lavezzi in the area, but Costil kept out his stinging strike from a tight angle. In the 28th minute Quintero made progress down the right wing before crossing. Silva made the clearing header but only as far as Sylla, whose 30-yard volley went straight at Trapp. The visitors continued pressing forward and won a corner. Di Maria swung it in and saw the ball flicked on at the near post. However, M'Bengue did well to clear just in the nick of time. Rennes were being pushed deeper and deeper into their own half around the hour mark as PSG kept up the pressure. The hosts simply put their men behind the ball to defend. The visitors finally found their breakthrough in the 75th minute. Lucas made a marauding run down the flank to run onto a ball over the top. He then squared it for Di Maria who made no mistake with his first-time shot.
