Ligue 1
Result: Paris Saint-Germain 3-0 Metz
Date: 21 August 2016
Venue: Parc de Princes
Angel Di Maria played a starring role for Paris Saint-Germain, as they recorded a 3-0 win over Metz at the Parc de Princes.
Edinson Cavani returned to the PSG line-up to lead the attack, while Lucas Moura and Javier Pastore also started for the hosts.
The Ligue 1 champions enjoyed most of the possession in the opening exchanges and should have taken the lead after 19 minutes but Cavani headed over the crossbar from point-blank range.
Cavani was presented with another golden chance 10 minutes later when he was left one-on-one with Thomas Didillon, however the Uruguayan failed to beat the Metz goalkeeper.
The woodwork came to Metz's rescue on the stroke of halftime, as Angel Di Maria picked out Cavani, who rattled the upright with a deflected effort from 12-yards out.
PSG broke the deadlock shortly after the halftime break courtesy of a clinical finish from Lucas, after some good work by Serge Aurier.
The hosts doubled their lead in the 67th minute as Lyvin Kurzawa rose well to meet Di Maria's free-kick and sent a bullet header past Didillon.
PSG coach Unai Emery used the final stages of the second half to introduce Blaise Matuidi and Hatem Ben Arfa.
The champions then sealed the win in the final minute of stoppage time, as Di Maria picked out Marco Verratti, who slotted home with a deflected effort from close range.
