'Zinedine Zidane Told Me He Feared His Kids Would Become Idiots'

Zinedine Zidane

Zinedine Zidane has four sons who are all trying to follow in his footsteps in football, but the Real Madrid manager was once said to be worried that his children would "turn into little idiots".

Zidane's two eldest, Enzo and Luca, both made their senior debut for Los Blancos but have since left the club, with the latter on loan at Racing Santander while Enzo is on the books of UD Almeria.

His two youngest sons Theo and Elyaz, meanwhile, are still playing in the Spanish giants' youth set-up.

French journalist Frederic Hermel, who wrote a biography about the 1998 FIFA World Cup, has now revealed what the France legend once told him was his only fear for his sons.

"One anecdote, which he told me when I was on a plane with (Alfredo) Di Stefano and Zidane after the Ballon d'Or ceremony, left me stunned," Hermel wrote in his book called Zidane, as quoted by Marca.

"We spoke about life and he said to me: 'I have one fear... that my children turn into little idiots'.

"I saw the fear of a super-famous father who wanted to protect and educate values to his children.

"He goes to parents' evenings at school like a normal father, he's dad Zidane."

Zidane picked up his 134th victory as Real manager against Mallorca on Wednesday evening. In doing so, he bettered Vicente del Bosque's record and has now collected the second-most wins in the club's history.

Only Miguel Munoz won more matches in charge of Los Blancos, having claimed 357 victories in 605 games.
