With Virgil van Dijk being linked with Real Madrid, the Spanish giants have reportedly revealed their stance on signing the soon-to-be free agent.
The Liverpool captain's existing deal with the Reds comes to an end at the conclusion of the 2024/25 season. The Dutchman has spent the last seven years at Anfield, but this campaign could be his last with the club, as rumours of an agreement over an extension are yet to surface.
Speculation has been rife linking him to Los Blancos. Earlier in the season, the reigning LaLiga and UEFA Champions League title winners were touted as a possible landing spot for the 33-year-old, and these links have once again resurfaced.
Central defence has been an area of concern for Carlo Ancelotti given the injuries to the likes of David Alaba, Eder Militao and Antonio Rudiger. Van Dijk has subsequently been connected to the Santiago Bernabeu, but according to Marca, Los Merengues are not keen to sign the Netherlands skipper.
A number of major names are approaching free agency at the end of the season, such as Van Dijk and Joshua Kimmich, but the same report claims that the chiefs at Real Madrid believe these rumours are being spread as leverage for the players to secure better contracts at their current clubs.
Real thought they were close to luring another looming free agent earlier this season in Alphonso Davies, but at the very last moment, he decided to extend his stay with Bayern Munich.
It is understood that the record European champions do appreciate the Breda native, but they have no intention of signing him, especially given the recent progress of players such as Raul Asencio.
