Another racist incident has highlighted the need for change in Spain's football stadiums after Levante's Senegalese midfielder, Pape Diop, received monkey-chants from Atletico Madrid fans.
Diop claimed he heard monkey-like chanting coming from an area in the stands occupied by Atletico fans as the final whistle was blown. The Senegalese international responded to the chants by 'dancing like a monkey'.
"They called me monkey and I turned round and imitated a monkey," he said as quoted by Marca.
"I'm tired of racism in football. And there's a lot of it."
"I did the monkey dance to make light of it. I wanted people to know what had happened."
When the referee blew the final whistle, Diop ran to the corner flag to celebrate the win in front of the Atletico fans.
The Senegal player danced away in front of the visitors, which resulted in a minor scuffle involving the Levante midfielder and some of the Atletico players.
"I don't know if it's racism or a lack of respect but they have to stop the monkey chants," he added.
Diop also claimed that a certain group of Atlético fans had subjected him to abuse "throughout the entire match."
The incident appeared just one week after a banana was thrown at Dani Alves and the player responded by eating the Potassium, which started an international 'say no to racism' campaign.
