According to Saudi newspaper Al-Midan Sports, Saudi Arabian giants Al Hilal are in discussions with the record Ballon d’Or winner’s father and agent, Jorge Messi, regarding a potential move to the oil-rich kingdom. At the FIFA Club World Cup, the 38-year-old demonstrated that he is still capable of performing at a world-class level, having helped Inter Miami reach the Round of 16 despite being drawn into a tough group featuring the likes of Al Ahly, Palmeiras and FC Porto.

Prior to joining the Herons in 2023, the football icon was offered €1.4 billion (R29 billion) by the Blue Wave, who were strongly linked with the diminutive attacker. Ultimately, he rebuffed their advances and chose to move to the United States of America — but now it seems the Riyadh-based side has reignited their interest.

Earlier in the 2024/25 campaign, rumours emerged suggesting that the Rosario native was growing discontent with life in Florida and the level of Major League Soccer, and would be open to signing with a Saudi Pro League club.

Al Hilal are reportedly looking to capitalise on the fact that Messi’s contract with Inter Miami expires in December 2025. Talks with his agent are said to be taking place during the remainder of their trip to North America, with the Barcelona legend viewed as a valuable addition to their squad.

Should he ultimately sign for Al Hilal, Messi would be joining the fierce rivals of Al Nassr — the club captained by Cristiano Ronaldo. The two forwards dominated world football for over a decade, winning all the Ballon d’Or awards between 2008 and 2017.
