The South African attacker is now a free agent and is able to sign for any club of his choosing. The Witbank native recently parted ways with Qatar SC, six months after joining the Gulf outfit from record African champions Al Ahly.
Many clubs have been linked with the 31-year-old since the announcement of his departure from the Qatari Stars League side, but perhaps no links have been more pertinent than those connecting him with a move to the White Knights. The five-time African champions were first touted as a likely destination for the attacker when he left the Club of the Century, and now those rumours have resurfaced following his departure from Qatar SC.
Earlier this week, it was reported that the Bafana Bafana representative had given the financial stipulations under which he would be willing to sign should he return to the Cairo International Stadium. However, according to El Watan Sports, it now seems that these lofty salary expectations have turned Zamalek off the prospect of bringing Tau back to North Africa.
The skilful attacker arguably enjoyed his best form in African football while playing in Egypt. During his time with Ahly, not only did he win a plethora of team honours, but he also captured some significant individual accolades, most notably the 2023 CAF Interclubs Player of the Year.

Zamalek were likely hoping he could replicate this form with them, but it now seems unlikely that a deal will come to fruition. The same report claims that the former Brighton & Hove Albion man will most probably be heading back to South Africa, with a number of Betway Premiership sides interested.
