FIFA 'To Split' R19bn Among Downs & Co. For CWC

Mamelodi Sundowns are reportedly set to receive a percentage of the €575 million allocated to clubs competing the FIFA Club World Cup.

FIFA have reportedly agreed to split €1 billion (R19.7 billion) among the clubs that will be participating in the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup, including Mamelodi Sundowns.

According to Diario AS, world football's governing body have decided on the funds that will be allocated to the 32 clubs taking part in the revamped global spectacle.

The same report claims that this comes after FIFA secured a €1 billion broadcast deal with DAZN and that clubs playing in the group stages will share a sum of €575 million (R11.3 billion), while the remaining €465 million (R9.1 billion) will be distributed according to how far each respective club progresses in the competition. 

Of the €575 million that will be split among the clubs entering the tournament in the United States of America, it is alleged that the funds will not be distributed equally, with the figures said to be dispersed according to the interest and track record of each club. 

It is believed that European clubs will receive the most money, with sides from the continent potentially claiming between €60 million (R1.1 billion) and €70 million (R1.3 billion), just for making their way to North America. It is said that European Club Association president and Paris Saint-Germain chairman Nasser Al-Khelaifi negotiated the terms for UEFA representatives but believes that the figures will please all the clubs involved.

The aforementioned report also stated that FIFA does not plan to retain any of the revenue generated from the sales of broadcast rights, tickets, and sponsors, and that all the money generated will be reinvested into the clubs.
