Barca Chief: Why We Didn’t Sign Rashford

Barcelona's sporting director has revealed why the club did not sign Marcus Rashford in the past transfer window.

After spending almost his entire life at Manchester United, last month Rashford bid farewell to the Red Devils—temporarily—as he completed his loan move to Aston Villa.

The England international had been ostracised by new United manager Ruben Amorim for most of the Portuguese tactician's tenure thus far at Old Trafford, which consequently led to the 27-year-old looking for a move elsewhere.

During the transfer window, it was largely speculated that the United academy graduate's preference was to go to Barcelona. The Blaugrana had previously tried to lure Rashford to Catalonia in the past, and now it looked as though they had a realistic possibility of signing the 60-capped international.

However, the five-time European champions were dealing with player registration issues pertaining to the likes of Dani Olmo and Pau Victor throughout the January window, and it is believed that the Englishman ultimately lost patience waiting for Barca and decided to sign for the Villans.

Now, former Barca star turned club sporting director Deco has pulled the curtain back on why the Spanish giants never pulled the trigger on a deal for the winger.

"It's true, we were talking about Marcus Rashford and it was a possible signing… but he couldn't come," Deco said, as per Fabrizio Romano.

"We weren't desperately looking for a signing. He was not a priority."
