According to AfricaSoccer.com, former Senegal boss Aliou Cissé will take the reins of the Libyan national team from next month.

The 48-year-old led the Lions of Teranga to their first-ever AFCON title at the start of 2022. However, after a seemingly poor retention of their title in Ivory Coast a year later, the Senegalese Football Federation decided to part ways with him in October 2024.

Cissé has been without a job ever since, and while naturally, the Ziguinchor native has been linked with a plethora of jobs, it seems that he will succeed former Orlando Pirates head coach Milutin Sredojevic as the Libyan national team boss.

The same report claims that he will also be supervising the nation's youth sides, as it seems that the Libyan Football Federation views this as a long-term appointment, putting in place the proper mechanisms to establish a sustainable pipeline of players coming through.

It is understood that the former defensive midfielder will arrive in the nation next week, on 5 March, a few weeks before the Mediterranean Knights are set to resume their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign with encounters against Angola and Cameroon.

It is believed that Cissé will assemble his own technical team to help him lead his new side, but the LFF will also assign a local coach in order to help the Senegalese better acclimatise to the rigours of his new role.
