It has been three years since the South African tactician called time on his tenure at the Cairo International Stadium, but it seems that some members of the squad who were present during his time still hold a sense of fondness for him to this day. One of those players is Hussein El Shahat, star winger for the Club of the Century.
The Egyptian international has been with the Red Devils since 2019, and during that time, he has seen a number of coaches come and go from the famed institution — one of them being the Kagiso native.
For a long time, El Shahat produced his best numbers under the former Mamelodi Sundowns boss. In the 83 appearances he made under Mosimane, the attacker amassed a total of 18 goals and 20 assists in all competitions.
The ex-Bafana Bafana coach would eventually depart, and following a brief stint under Portuguese tactician Ricardo Soares, Koller was appointed as the record African champions’ new head coach. Under the Swiss manager, El Shahat went on to surpass what he had achieved with Mosimane, scoring 27 goals and providing 26 assists — albeit having played 39 more matches under the Zurich native.
The decorated attacker has now opened up about his relationship with the Swiss, stating that he initially preferred Mosimane’s way of doing things.

"Kohler is different from Mosimane. I was getting along well with Mosimane, but with Kohler I wasn't participating at all. Then he told me you're one of the best players, and things started to go well with him recently,” he told OnTime Sports.
