Former Bidvest Wits player Faty passed away after collapsing during a football match in eSwatini on 25 April.

The Burundi international was diagnosed with a heart condition in 2016 following his departure from the Clever Boys, and subsequently went against doctors' orders as he continued to play football.

Details surrounding the 28-year-old's death remain incomplete, but it is believed the former Real Kings player collapsed and subsequently passed during a match for Swaziland club Malanti Chiefs.

Unfortunately, Faty is not the only player to have died from a heart problem while playing the game. One of the most notable cases in football history is that of Cameroon international Marc-Vivien Foe.

While playing for the Indomitable Lions against Colombia in the semi-finals of the 2003 Confederations Cup, Foe, with no other players around him, collapsed in the 70th minute and was pronounced dead after several failed attempts to resuscitate him. The autopsy later revealed that Foe's death was heart-related.

Juventus midfielder Sami Khedira was ruled out of the Italian giants' UEFA Champions League quarter-final tie against Atletico Madrid after it was discovered that the 2014 FIFA World Cup winner had an irregular heartbeat. Upon further analysis, it was revealed the former Los Blancos star had atrial arrhythmia, a heart condition that causes an abnormally fast and irregular heart rate.

As a result, the Germany international underwent surgery and was sidelined for a month, and has since resumed action.

Real legend Casillas is the latest player to have suffered a heart attack, with his club FC Porto confirming that the 37-year-old had a heart attack during a recent training session.

The three-time UEFA Champions League winner is in a stable condition, fortunately, but remains under observation.
