With FC Barcelona making the most expensive January signing for a second year running, here is an overview of the 10 costliest deals of the latest window.

The Catalan giants, who bought Philippe Coutinho for €140 million (R2.13 billion), plus another €20 million (R304 million) in performance-based add-ons, in January 2017, broke the bank for Frenkie de Jong this time around.
The Dutch midfielder, who was also chased by Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus, cost the club €75 million (R1.14 billion), plus another €11 million (R167 million) in add-ons, but will only arrive at the Camp Nou next season.
Chelsea's acquisition of Christian Pulisic from Borussia Dortmund for €64 million (R974 million) was the second costliest deal in January. However, he, too, will only play for his new club from next season onwards after being loaned back to the Bundesliga side for the rest of the campaign.
Barcelona were also involved in the third most expensive transfer of the window, with Guangzhou Evergrande making Paulinho's loan move permanent. The Chinese side spent €42 million (639 million) to sign the Brazilian back from Barca, according to Transfermarkt.
Paris Saint-Germain signed Leandro Paredes for €40 million (R608 million), while AC Milan splashed €35 million (R532 million) each on Krzysztof Piatek and Lucas Paqueta.
Newcastle United paid a club-record €24 million (R365 million) for Atlanta United's Miguel Almiron, and Liverpool received €21.2 million (R322 million) for Dominic Solanke from AFC Bournemouth.

Wolverhampton Wanderers made Jonny Castro Otto's loan move permanent after paying €20.5 million (R312 million) to Atletico Madrid, and Guangzhou's activation of Talisca's purchase option, sending €19.2 million (R292 million) to Benfica, complete the 10 most expensive deals of the window.
