Manchester United are "in talks" with one of FC Barcelona's most expensive players, according to reports.
The Red Devils are said to be keen to lure Ousmane Dembele to Old Trafford, and are working on two different approaches for the player, according to Sport.
They would prefer to sign him in the upcoming transfer window after already going after him ahead of the current campaign.
Last year, though, Barca were able to fend off the interest from the Premier League giants – something that could happen again in the coming window.
United, though, would reportedly also be prepared to wait another season and sign him for free once his contract expires in 2022.
Barcelona, meanwhile, would like to avoid losing a player they paid €135 million (R2.37 billion) for on a free transfer, and are working on extending his current deal.
New president Joan Laporta is understood to have made it a priority to begin negotiations, and hopes to seal a new agreement soon.
Barca's financial means are already stretched, however, and if Dembele's wage demands are too high, they might be forced into selling him in the upcoming window to avoid losing him for free.
The Frenchman has made 35 appearances for the Blaugrana across all competitions this season, scoring nine goals and setting up four more.
