Players currently without a club could still be registered by any side, and there are a lot of free agents on the market.
Yaya Toure is probably the most high-profile free agent after he left Olympiacos just three months into his second spell with the Greek giants. The Ivorian has been linked with a return to the Premier League but no club has snatched him up thus far.
Paul Pogba's brother Florentin is also still clubless. The 28-year-old left Turkish side Genclerbirligi in June 2018 and has since struggled to find a new team. ESPN, though, has claimed that he is close to joining Major League Soccer side Atlanta United. He was recently on trial with Spanish side Elche, but now seems likely to switch Europe for the US.

Ibrahim Afellay won the UEFA Champions League, LaLiga and Copa del Rey with FC Barcelona, but his career has since taken a downward spiral. He was subsequently twice loaned out to Schalke and Olympiacos before joining Stoke City. Affelay was released by the club in January 2018 after a bust up with coach Paul Lambert but returned for pre-season for the 2018/19. However, he picked up a long-term injury in a friendly and his contract was eventually mutually terminated on 28 January.
