The Catalan giants tried until the last minute to sign Eric Garcia from Manchester City, but the Citizens refused to lower their €20 million (R388 million) asking price for the player, whose contract expires at the end of this season.

Blaugrana manager Ronald Koeman stated over the weekend that he wanted to bring the La Masia product back to the Camp Nou, and Garcia himself was also keen on a move.

However, the clubs could not agree on a fee, and the defender can now either move in January or as a free agent after the campaign is completed.

Barcelona also tried to sell Ousmane Dembele to Manchester United, which would have generated funds for the Garcia move as well as the purchase of Memphis Depay.

United, though, were only keen on a loan deal for the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner, and reportedly also rejected the inclusion of a purchase option in the transaction.

As a consequence, Dembele stayed at the Camp Nou, while Barca could not afford to buy either Garcia or Depay, as reported by Fabrizio Romano.

There was also late drama at Chelsea as the Blues tried to free up their wage bill following their heavy buys in this window.

However, both Antonio Rudiger and Fikayo Tomori reportedly rejected deadline day transfers.

Rudiger was chased by Jose Mourinho's Tottenham Hotspur and was also linked with the likes of Paris Saint-Germain and AC Milan, but the German defender opted to fight for his place at Stamford Bridge.

His teammate Tomori was close to joining West Ham United, with everything agreed between the two clubs, including a "huge" loan fee, according to Sky Sports, but he snubbed the Hammers 10 minutes before the window shut – you can find some more failed deadline day deals in the gallery above!
