10 Big-Name Transfers That Could Still Happen In January

The Blues' striker struggles were once again exposed in their 2-0 defeat to Arsenal on the weekend, and as a consequence, manager Maurizio Sarri is believed to be pushing to sign a new forward. His preferred target is Gonzalo Higuain, who will join the Blues this week, according to Daily Star.

Chelsea will reportedly take over the Argentine's loan deal from AC Milan, paying £9 million (R160 million) in transfer fees as well as the player's £270 000 (R4.8 million) weekly wages. In addition, they could sign him permanently at the end of the season for £35 million (R624 million).

Higuain's move could be linked to Alvaro Morata leaving the Blues. The Spaniard is said to be close to completing a switch to Atletico Madrid, and his transfer could lead to a striker merry-go-around. With Milan likely to lose Higuain to the Blues, the Serie A side will reportedly sign Genao's in-form striker Krzysztof Piatek for €35 million (R547 million), according to The Guardian.

Another striker waiting to hear from Chelsea is Michy Batshuayi, with Valencia confirming they want to cancel their loan deal for the Belgian. The forward, who scored just three goals in Spain in the first half of the season, has been linked with AS Monaco and Everton.

Apart from a new striker, Chelsea are also believed to want to bring in a new midfielder to replace the departed Cesc Fabregas, who has joined Monaco. They have reportedly identified Zenit St Petersburg's Leandro Paredes as the Spaniard's replacement, but will need to fend off competition from Paris Saint-Germain, whose coach, Thomas Tuchel, has insisted he wants a new defensive midfielder in this window.

Manchester United, meanwhile, could lose right-back Matteo Darmian, who is understood to be a target for Juventus. In addition, the Red Devils have been linked with FC Porto's Eder Militao but the Brazilian has reportedly agreed to join Real Madrid.

FC Barcelona are also still active in the market, and reportedly want to sign another striker, while Denis Suarez could soon complete a loan switch to Arsenal.
