After Andre Onana was expelled from Cameroon's 2022 FIFA World Cup squad this week, it seems to have been revealed exactly what happened during his argument with head coach Rigobert Song.
FIFA Confirms Senegal Investigation Ahead Of England Clash
The 26-year-old was sent home this week after an apparent disagreement with his manager ahead of Cameroon's second group match.
Onana packed his bags and left Qatar following a heated discussion with Song, who had reportedly asked him to adapt his goalkeeping style to a more traditional approach.
The African star is widely thought of as one of the more natural sweeper-keepers in Europe, having come through Barcelona's famous La Masia academy and spending the early parts of his career as Ajax Amsterdam's No. 1.
According to The Athletic, Song asked Onana to be more cautious with the ball at his feet and use centre-back Nicolas Nkoulou and left-back Nouhou Tolo to progress the ball instead of hanging on to the ball himself.
Onana, however, was believed to make it known to Song that he believed Nkoulou was playing too conservatively and even suggested to his coach that Udinese defender Enzo Ebosse would be more suitable to the role than Nkoulou.
The Inter Milan goalkeeper wanted to retain his playmaking duties in search of a solution before Song reportedly warn him that he would be sent home if he did not adhere to instructions.
Official: Expelled Cameroon Star Releases Statement
The shot-stopper did eventually catch a flight home after tensions between him and Song simmered for longer than a day, with the Cameroonian tactician deciding not to have a player on his bench that did not totally buy into his ideas.
