Argentina Boss Addresses Martinez's Behaviour After FIFA Confirm Investigation

Argentina Boss Addresses Martinez's Behaviour After FIFA Confirm Investigation

Argentina manager Lionel Scaloni has commented on Emiliano Martinez's controversial celebrations after winning the 2022 FIFA World Cup, with FIFA having announced they are investigating the world champions.

FIFA To Punish Argentina After World Cup?

The sport's world governing body recently confirmed they would be looking into the "offensive behaviour and violations of the principles of fair play" displayed by the eventual champions in their final against France.

It is believed that Martinez's actions during and after the penalty shootout, and during the Albiceleste's subsequent bus parade in Buenos Aires, could see the Argentine Football Association (AFA) being punished.

This comes after strong criticism from the public after the Aston Villa shot-stopper appeared to mock France striker Kylian Mbappe, seemingly unprovoked, and his national team boss Scaloni has now admitted that the 30-year-old will not be entirely happy with how he carried himself at times.

"There are attitudes with which Dibu Martínez will not be happy, but he is a spectacular boy," he told Cadena Cope.

"He is a toddler. It is incredible how good a boy he is, you have to get to know him. He was one of the discoveries that gave us enormous joy.

"He has a personality that has given the group a lot. There are attitudes, but he is a toddler."

Although FIFA has not yet revealed the outcome of its findings, it is likely the AFA will be fined as a result of the investigation.
