The Algerian Football Federation (FAF) has lodged an official protest with FIFA to have their World Cup qualifier against Cameroon replayed following their defeat to the West Africans this week.
The Desert Foxes believe they were the victims of "scandalous" refereeing decisions in their 2-1 loss in Blida on Tuesday night, and have requested world football's governing body to schedule a rematch to see which of the teams will be heading to Qatar in November.
The 2019 Africa Cup of Nations winners went into the final play-off match against the Indomitable Lions with a 1-0 advantage following their triumph in Douala four days before.
Cameroon captain Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting gave the five-time African champions the lead in the second leg this week, and following the tense 96 minutes of football that ensued after that goal, it looked as though Algeria had secured their passage to a fifth World Cup when Ahmed Touba scored in the 118th minute of the game.
Rigobert Song's men never gave up, however, and in added time of extra-time, Karl Toko Ekambi won the match for Cameroon when he slotted the ball past Rais M'Bolhi to see the Indomitable Lions go through via the away goals rule.
Following the game's conclusion, FAF felt aggrieved by the way in which the tie unfolded.
"The Algerian Football Federation have protested to FIFA against the scandalous refereeing that affected the final result of the game between Algeria and Cameroon," a statement from FAF read, as per KingFut.
"The Algerian Football Federation insist on legally using their rights to schedule a fair rematch.
"We also demand that FIFA investigate the decisions made by the referee during the game."
As it stands, Cameroon is one of five African nations set to represent the continent at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, along with Ghana, Morocco, Tunisia and Senegal.
Algeria's North African counterparts Egypt also want their third-round qualification play-off match to be replayed after the Pharaohs were eliminated by Senegal 3-1 in a penalty shootout.
