2022 FIFA World Cup Qualifying Wrap

2022 FIFA World Cup Qualifying Wrap

Egypt are one game away from securing a spot at the 2022 FIFA World Cup after defeating African champions Senegal 1-0 at the Cairo International Stadium.

Both nations were able to call on their big-name European stars in a rematch of this year's Africa Cup of Nations final.

However, the game's only goal arrived after just four minutes when Saliou Ciss deflected the ball into his own net after Mohamed Salah struck the crossbar.

Ghana and Nigeria could not be separated at the Baba Yara Stadium after playing to a goalless draw on Friday night.

The return leg is set to take place on Tuesday evening at the Abuja National Stadium, with the tie evenly poised.

Algeria edged closer to securing a spot at the World Cup after registering a 1-0 away win at Cameroon.

Islam Slimani got the only goal of the game for the former African champions, who were eager to bounce back from their disappointing Africa Cup of Nations campaign in January.

Tunisia put themselves in a good position to qualify for the World Cup after defeating Mali 1-0 at the Stade 26 Mars.

Abdoulaye Doucoure made his debut for the hosts after switching allegiance from France.

However, it was Moussa Sissako who grabbed the headlines as he netted an own goal to put the visitors on 36 minutes and was shown a red card four minutes later.

Morocco have taken a slight advantage in their play-off tie after securing a 1-1 draw at Congo DR on Friday afternoon.

Yoane Wissa gave the home side the lead in the 12th minute, but Tarik Tissoudali got the important away goal for the Moroccans with 13 minutes left on the clock.
