2022 FIFA World Cup Qualifying Wrap

2022 FIFA World Cup Qualifying Wrap

Harry Kane's hat-trick steered England to the brink of qualification for the 2022 FIFA World Cup following a 5-0 victory over Albania at Wembley on Friday.

Manchester United captain Harry Maguire broke the deadlock earlier on before Kane netted three times before halftime whilst Liverpool's Jordan Henderson got in on the act too.

As Emile Smith Rowe debuted, the Three Lions now need just a point from their final qualifying clash away to San Marino to ensure passage to Qatar next year.

Italy will have to wait on qualification for the World Cup after settling for a 1-1 draw against Switzerland in a top-of-the-table clash in Group C.

Swiss fullback Silvan Widmer provided the opener in the first few minutes of the match before Giovanni Di Lorenzo notched the Azzurri back level.

Chelsea midfielder Jorginho could've handed the European champions victory from the spot in the dying minutes, but he missed in the end.

Scotland booked a World Cup play-off ticket after managing to register a 2-0 victory away to Moldova in a Group F encounter.

The two efforts arrived from Nathan Patterson and Southampton's very own Che Adams, with a missed penalty attempt from Vadim Rata preventing Moldova a consolation.

Poland remained in contention of a spot in the finals from Group I in the aftermath of a comprehensive 4-1 triumph over a ten-man Andorra.

Forward Ricard Fernandez saw red in the opening minutes, and ultimately allowed the Poles to run riot through a double from Robert Lewandowski before Joan Cervos replied for the host.

Efforts then from Kamil Jozwiak and Arkadiusz Milik followed to see the Poles to victory ahead of their final clash in the group against Hungary on Monday.

Denmark continued their dominant act in Group F at the Parken Arena as a 3-1 victory over the Faroe Islands took place.

Andreas Olsen secured the first strike and watched Jacob Larsen double the Danes lead before Joakim Maehle added a third, with Klaemint Olsen giving Faroe Islands a consolation.
