Messi started on the bench amid the anger from Paris Saint-Germain, reportedly did not want the player to feature in the international break after missing their last two fixtures.
Paulo Dybala was given the start in place of Messi and he made the opportunity count as he won possession back on seven minutes and picked out Angel di Maria, who sent a fine curler into the top corner for the opening goal.

The Copa America champions enjoyed a lot more of the ball in the early stages of the encounter, but Uruguay had Muslera to thank for keeping the scoreline down.
Uruguay nearly got the equaliser at the other end on 32 minutes as the Atletico Madrid star saw his volley rattle against the upright with Emiliano Martinez well beaten.
Martinez was called into action just before the interval after pulling off a fine save to deny Guido Rodriguez to keep his nation ahead at the break.
Both coaches opted for a change after the break as Joaquin Correa replaced Dybala while Brian Facundo made way for Facundo Torres for the hosts.

The Uruguayans piled on the pressure for the remainder of the second half as they went in search of an equaliser, although Angel Correa nearly doubled Argentina's lead after the hour mark after going on a mazy run.
Messi did go on to make his introduction with 15 minutes left on the clock despite his club protesting that he was not fit enough to be called up this week.
Despite Messi's late introduction, Argentina were unable to add to their advantage but the defence held out for the clean sheet as Scaloni's qualified for next year's World Cup.
