2022 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers: Argentina Throw Away Win, Neymar Scores In Brazil Triumph

Lionel Messi's Argentina threw away a 2-0 lead to draw with Colombia in their 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier on Wednesday morning, while Neymar went a goal closer to Pele's all-time record in Brazil's win over Paraguay.

Colombia 2-2 Argentina

Lionel Scaloni's men got themselves ahead just three minutes into their clash with Colombia, with Atalanta centre-back Cristian Romero latching on to a fantastic ball into the box from Udinese's Rodrigo De Paul.

The Albiceleste then doubled their lead five minutes later through Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Leandro Paredes, who found the back of the net neatly after a smart one-two with Inter Milan's Lautaro Martinez.

Colombia striker Luis Muriel got his side back into the game in the 51st minute with a calmly slotted penalty-kick after Nicolas Otamendi conceded a spot-kick following a perceived elbow on Mateus Uribe.

The home side slowly grew into the clash and were rewarded for their efforts late on, when Juventus' Juan Cuadrado assisted Miguel Borja for a dramatic 90th-minute equaliser.

Paraguay 0-2 Brazil

The Selecao continued their perfect start to 2022 World Cup qualification, making it six wins out of six matches with only two goals conceded.

Early on Wednesday morning, Neymar scored his 66th goal for his country to go within 11 strikes of Pele, who is Brazil's all-time leading scorer with 77 strikes to his name.

Manchester City striker Gabriel Jesus set the Paris Saint-Germain man up for his goal in the fourth minute, before Neymar then turned provider for Lucas Paqueta's 90th-minute effort to seal a 2-0 victory.
