Cameroon Makes History Despite World Cup Exit

Cameroon 1-0 Brazil

Cameroon failed to progress to the FIFA World Cup knockout stage despite securing a 1-0 win over Brazil in their final Group G clash.

Tite handed starts to Gabriel Jesus, Gabriel Martinelli, Antony, Gleison Bremer, Alex Telles and Ederson Moraes as the Selecao rested some regulars, while Vincent Aboubakar started up top for the Indomitable Lions.

It was a strong opening from the five-time World Champions, who had a couple of chances going the way of Rodrygo and Antony, but the Indomitable Lions cleared their lines.

The same sequence from the Selecao after the halftime followed through once again Rodrygo as well as Antony at the fore front of openings which weren't utilised.

Cameroon struck the killer blow in the dying minutes when captain Aboubakar arrived in the area and nodded in a pin-point delivery from the right of the area.

Aboubakar was sent off shortly after as he took off his short whilst celebrating the goal, earning himself a second yellow card of the game.

Brazil received a glorious chance to draw level with minutes remaining through unlikely source in Marquinhos, but he missed target and 1-0 it ended to the five-time African champions.

Cameroon have become the first African nation to beat Brazil at a World Cup.

Serbia 2-3 Switzerland

Switzerland qualified from Group G alongside Brazil with an entertaining 3-2 victory at the Stadium 974 over Serbia.

One alteration for Serbia in Dusan Vlahovic from the draw with Cameroon showed as he partnered Aleksandar Mitrovic in attack, while the Swiss had Gregor Kobel and not Yann Sommer in goal.

Switzerland took an early lead after a ball from Djibril Sow found the veteran Xherdan Shaqiri, who made no mistake with a solid finish.

The Serbia erased the arrears in the matter of minutes courtesy of a well-taken header by Mitrovic from an equally delightful delivery by Ajax Amsterdam winger Dusan Tadic.

A spell of sustained dominance from the Eagles around the half-hour mark followed whereby a through ball from Tadic allowed Vlahovic to from across the face of goal and into the net.

Switzerland rallied on and drew level with a minute before the break when a ball from Silvan Widmer granted Breel Embolo to follow-up and drill home.

The Swiss went further ahead as the start for the second half commenced after a ball by Ruben Vargas fell into the path of Remo Freuler and he then showed composure for a smart finish.
