Mosimane made two changes to the side that drew with Pyramids, as Hussein El Shahat and Walter Bwalya were both recalled while Qatari side recalled former Bayern Munich and Juventus defender Medhi Benatia and Palmeiras loanee Dudu in midfield.

The match had limited chances in the opening exchanges, with Bwalya coming close for Al Ahly with a header early on while Michael Olunga also threatened with a header midway into the first stanza that was close but missed just wide.

The Red Devils drew first blood on the half-hour mark after El Shahat unleashed a low strike from outside the box that found the bottom corner after he was teed up by Bwalya.

Bwalya thought he had doubled the lead for Mosimane's charges with seven minutes left of the first stanza after finding the back of the net but the goal was disallowed by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) for offside.

Olunga came close to levelling matters for Al Duhail on the stroke of half-time with a header from the centre of the box that was saved by goalkeeper Mohamed El Shenawy and the Egyptian giants went to the break leading by an odd goal.

The Qatari side continued to put Al Ahly under pressure after from break as they went in search of an equaliser, with El Shenawy producing a couple fine saves to preserve the Red Devils' lead.

Dudu was the latest Al Duhail player to come close to snatching the equaliser in the last 20 minutes with a threatening strike from outside the box but El Shenawy was on hand to make the save once again

Al Duhail kept on forcing saves out of El Shenawy in the dying minutes but they could not find parity a Als Ahly held on to a narrow win to book a place in the semi-finals against the UEFA Champions League holders.
