Despite falling short of the ultimate prize, Al Ahly head coach Pitso Mosimane, has taken the positives from his side's encouraging performance in the 2020 FIFA Club World Cup.
The tournament was Mosimane's second in four years, after he led Mamelodi Sundowns to CAF Champions league glory in 2016. Unfortunately for Mosimane and Sundowns, the left the tournament empty-handed, failing to secure a single win.
Now, the 56-year-old has opened up on his progression with the Red Eagles and why he feels he has progressed since the last time he featured in the tournament.
"We represented Africa very well in the FIFA Club World Cup. We managed to qualify to the semi-finals and we will be playing tomorrow (Thursday) in order to win the bronze medal," Mosimane was quoted by Al Ahly's official website.
"I qualified four years ago with Mamelodi Sundowns F.C to the FIFA Club World Cup and we didn't win any match. This year, I managed to beat Al-Duhail SC while coaching Al Ahly and we played very well against FC Bayern Munich.
"We always want to achieve more at Al Ahly and we will fight in order to play again next year at the FIFA Club World Cup," he said.
Ahly will face Palmeiras in the third-place playoff of the FIFA Club World Cup at Education City Stadium on Thursday at 5 PM (CAT).
