The new iteration of the tournament will now feature 32 teams spread across each continent, pitting the likes of Mamelodi Sundowns against Borussia Dortmund and Esperance De Tunis against Chelsea.
The respective winners of each continental tournament in the last four years were awarded automatic qualification to the Club World Cup.
The remaining teams booked their spot through their continental ranking and eligibility across the same four-year period.
Some of the most successful teams will be competing in the history-making tournament. Among the teams who have achieved notable continental success include Real Madrid, who have won 15 UEFA Champions Leagues and Al Ahly have won 12 CAF Champions League wins.
Saudi side Al Hilal is the most successful Asian side in the competition with four AFC Champions League wins, while Argentinian side Boca Juniors is the most successful representative from Conmebol with six Copa Libertadores wins.
