Benzema Previews Showdown Against Tau & Ahly

Benzema Previews Showdown Against Tau & Ahly

Karim Benzema has lifted the lid on his and Al Ittihad's expectations going into their looming encounter against Al Ahly.

Al Ittihad captain and 2022 Ballon d'Or winner Karim Benzema has given his honest assessment of what he thinks it will be like to go up against Percy Tau and his Al Ahly teammates in their upcoming FIFA Club World Cup clash.

In the past off-season, the Saudi Pro League champions made a massive splash in the transfer market as they were at the forefront of the division's initiative to attract the world's best players to the Gulf state.

The Tigers were able to lure the likes of Benzema, N'Golo Kante and Fabinho to Jeddah as they look to not only be competitive in the market but also on the pitch.

They now have this opportunity, with the latest Club World Cup being held in their home city.

In the first round, Marcello Gallardo's side made light work of Auckland City with a 3-0 victory, a game in which Benzema scored the opener, but the Lyon native expects a much tougher contest against the Club of the Century.

"It is important that we start well in the Club World Cup, and we are happy with the victory. It is not about qualifying for the final in one match. Rather, we must play another match, and we consider all Club World Cup matches like the final," the 35-year-old said, as per Kooora.

"We are happy with the result in the Auckland match, and as for the next confrontation against Al Ahly of Egypt, we will see what will happen in it, and it will be difficult. All teams want to win the championship, but we are ready to fight until the end."
