After a 2022/23 season that included only a Copa del Rey title, Los Blancos returned to the summit of Spanish and European football in 2023/24 as they capped off this past campaign by winning both the LALIGA and the UEFA Champions League titles.

Real prised the league title away from their eternal adversaries Barca, and less than 48 hours after defeating Borussia Dortmund in the European Cup final, Los Merengues announced that Mbappe had signed a five-year deal with the club as he completed his long-awaited move to the Spanish capital.

The Paris native's move comes at a time in the Blaugrana's history when they are unable to pull off deals of a such a nature as they are still believed to be navigating their precarious financial position.

Laporta has since commented on Mbappe's arrival at Real, claiming that it does not bode well for his team.

"As a Cule, it's not good news," the Spanish executive admitted in an interview with Barca One.

However, he did caveat that statement by saying he prefers to stick to Barca's model of producing superstars of their own.
