Lamine Yamal, 16, has made a massive impression for both for his club and the Spanish national team since being given regular game time by Xavi Hernandez at the beginning of the season.
With the dynamic winger having already broken a few records for Barca and La Furia Roja, the LALIGA champions have rewarded the teenage sensation with a new three-year contract that includes a mammoth €1 billion (R20 billion) release clause.
"Lamine Yamal has whizzed up through the youth ranks and is regarded as one of the hottest properties to come out of La Masia in recent years," an official statement from the Catalan club read.
"He was just 15 years, nine months and 16 days old when he made his league debut against Betis on 29 April 2023, making him the youngest player ever to appear in a competitive fixture for the team.
"Xavi Hernandez has gradually been using his services more and more, and after joining the squad for its pre-season tour, he become the youngest-ever starter for FC Barcelona in a game against Cadiz this season, and against Royal Antwerp he became the second-youngest player ever to appear in the competition.
"And despite his youth, he has already won his first international cap for Spain. In a game against Georgia, he not only became the youngest player ever to play for 'La Roja', but also the youngest-ever goalscorer."

The Blaugrana have seemingly been extra cautious regarding the release clauses they insert into their players' contracts ever since Paris Saint-Germain successfully triggered Neymar's €222 million (R4.4 billion) buyout fee in 2017, with fellow La Masia graduates Gavi and Ansu Fati having similar clauses to Yamal's inserted into their deals.
