Multiple reports from Spain had indicated that Barcelona were closing in on Nico Williams and that negotiations were ongoing to secure the 22-year-old's services.
Barcelona reportedly agreed personal terms with Williams, but the Euro 2024 winner made a big transfer u-turn when he signed a new deal with Athletic Club to keep him at the club until 2035.
According to Mundo Deportivo, the Blaugrana shifted its attention to Liverpool winger Luis Diaz after missing out on Williams.
Those close to Diaz reportedly told the Catalan club of the Colombian's desire to join the club, in the hopes that the Williams deal fell through.
Sources within the club indicated that Diaz's agent is not demanding any mandatory registration clauses or free-release guarantees if the club fails to register him.
The publication reported further that Diaz planned to request a transfer from Liverpool, but the Spanish club are not expecting it to happen soon following the death of Diogo Jota, Diaz's former teammate and close friend.
Barca Universal reported that Barcelona have also kept tabs on Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford. The 27-year-old was deemed surplus to requirements at Old Trafford and is reportedly keen on a move to Spain.
Rashford has a contract with Manchester United until 2028. However, United want to sell him, and the price is likely to be set around €40 million (R834 million).

Despite the cheaper valuation, Luis Diaz remains Barcelona's number one priority, but the Colombian would reportedly set the club back around €90 million (R1.8 billion).
