FC Copenhagen forward Michael Santos has been banned for three matches from all European competitions by UEFA after being found guilty of assaulting a matchday police officer during his side's match against Celtic in February.

"... to suspend the FC Copenhagen player, Michael Santos, for a total of three (3) UEFA club competition matches (including any matches previously and automatically served by the player to date) for which he would be otherwise eligible, for assaulting another person present at the match," a statement from UEFA's Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body read.

The incident arose after Santos, who had earlier scored the match's opening goal, shoved an officer to the ground after the policeman had attempted to prevent Copenhagen players from celebrating a second goal during the latter stages of the game.

Santos will miss the club's next UEL match against Turkish side Istanbul Basaksehir, as well the quarter-final matches thereafter should Copenhagen progress in the competition.
