UEFA Europa League Semi-Final Wrap

Roma 3-2 Manchester United (5-8 agg.)

Manchester United advacned tothe UEFA Europa League final despite a 3-2 loss to Roma in the semi-final second-leg at Stadio Olimpico.

Man United made three changes from the side that emphatically won 6-2 in the first-leg, as Eric Bailly and Mason Greenwood were recalled alongside a rare start for Donny van de Beek.

Edinson Cavani broke the deadlock for the Red Devils six minutes before the break and made it 7-2 on aggregate with a thumping effort from Fred's through ball after a counter-attack.

Eden Dzeko levelled matters for the Italian side three minutes before the hour-mark with a close-range header at the back post after a bouncing volley across the face of goal by Pedro.

Bryan Cristante gave Roma a 2-1 lead on the hour-mark with a smashing strike into the top corner from the edge of the box after Fred lost possession to Lorenzo Pellegrini.

Cavani equalised for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's charges, grabbed his brace and made it 8-4 on aggregate with a header just outside the six-yard box after a cross by Bruno Fernandes.

Nicola Zalewski restored the lead for the hosts in the last six minutes with a volley at the back post that came off Alex Telles and went through goalkeeper David De Gea's legs, but United had a big enough lead to advance to the final.

Arsenal 0-0 Villarreal (1-2 agg.)

Villarreal progressed to their first European final in their history with a 2-1 aggregate win over Arsenal in the semi-finals after a goalless draw in the second-leg at the Emirates Stadium.

The Gunners made three alterations from the 2-1 defeat in the first-leg, as Granit Xhaka picked up an injury in the warm-up and he was replaced by Kieran Tierney, alongside recalls for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Hector Bellerin.

Aubameyang came the closest to breaking the deadlock for Mikel Arteta's troops in the 26th minute with a first-time low volley inside the box that came off the bottom post and the first stanza ended goalless.

Needing only a 1-0 win to through, Arsenal were getting closer and closer to getting that important goal and there was agony again 12 minutes before time as Aubameyang leaped high inside the box and powered a header against the upright.

In the end, the Yellow Submarine held on to a goalless draw, that was enough to see them through to the final with a 2-1 aggregate win.
