UEFA Europa League Report: Sevilla v Lazio 20 February 2019

UEFA Europa League

Result: Sevilla 2-0 Lazio (Seville won 3-0 on agg.)

Date: 20 February 2019

Venue: Estadio Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán

Sevilla became the first side to qualify for the UEFA Europa League last 16 following a 2-0 second-leg win over Lazio on Wednesday.

The LaLiga side led the encounter 1-0 from the first-leg last week in Rome, leaving the Italians to hit the wind off the snail to overturn the deficit.

The hosts were forced in to an early change after Sergio Escudero couldn't continue inside six minutes and was replaced by Quincy Promes.

The home side's advantage continued on 20 minutes when Pablo Garcia's shot bounced kindly for Wissam Ben Yedder to turn home from six-yards.

In the latter stages of the half, Lazio closed in on an equaliser when Felipe Caicedo's low cross found Ciro Immobile, whose powerful effort went off target.

Sevilla appeared more and more confident as the second half commenced with Sergi Gomez nudging close to the net following Pablo Sarabia's cross on 50 minutes.

Excellent play from Sergej Milinkovic-Savic set up a lurking Francesco Acerbi with a through pass, but the latter failed to cap off the initiative.

On the hour mark, Sevilla were reduced to ten men after Franco Vazquez was sent packing for a second bookable offence on 60 minutes.

Lazio suprisingly  went on the front foot and threatened a way back to the contest, with Immobile firing wide from close range on 69 minutes.

In a matter of moments, the Italians were also brought down to ten through violent conduct from Adam Marusic with 20 minutes remaining in the encounter.

Sevilla finished off the match  in the 78th minute when Sarabia weaved through the defence to finish from inside the box after combining with Jesus Navas.
