UEFA Europa League

Result: Arsenal 1-0 Qarabag

Date: 13 December 2018

Venue: Emirates Stadium

Arsenal ended their UEFA Europa League group stage campaign unbeaten after defeating  Qarabag 1-0 at the Emirates Stadium on Thursday evening.

The first sight on goal came from the Gunners when a left-footed curler from Bukanyo Saka was palmed back into play to the end of Joe Willock but his reaction was too slow to tuck it home.

Making his first Europa League appearance, Alexandre Lacazette repaid the faith on 16 minutes with a finish into the bottom corner after beating one defender from a pass by Mesut Ozil.

With little threat coming from the visitors, the Gunners remained in control and Eddie Nketiah and Mohamed ElNeny's glimpses on goal saw them close to adding to their tally before the break.

In the second half, Arsenal didn't start with the same intensity as in the first with the visitors making a case for them to be heard.

Inside the few minutes, Wilde-Donald Guerrier managed to get underneath a corner to get a header away but it was rising well off the mark.

Saka managed to get on the ball before turning two players to get a low shot away, but it was too weak to cause any havoc.

Nketiah, who battled away all evening, thought he had finally been rewarded after guiding home a header from inside the box, but he had just straight in an offside position.

With a minute to go, Saka missed the opportunity to write his name in the headlines after being put through one-on-one, only to shoot straight into Vagner's arms.

Nevertheless, the Gunners managed to keep their cool to end their group stage journey in fine style ahead of Monday's knockout stages draw.

Qualified teams:

Group A: Bayer Leverkusen, Zurich   Group B: Salzburg, Celtic   Group C: Zenit St Petersburg, Slavia Praha   Group D: Dinamo Zagreb, Fenerbahce   Group E: Arsenal, Sporting Lisbon   Group F: Real Betis, Olympiakos
