Man City 'Draw Up' Four-Man Rodri Replacement Shortlist

Man City 'Draw Up' Four-Man Rodri Replacement Shortlist

Manchester City reportedly have four midfielders in mind to reinforce the squad if Rodri is out for the remainder of the season due to injury.

With Rodri potentially out for the rest of the season due to injury, Manchester City have reportedly drawn up a four-man shortlist of midfielders they could replace him with for the campaign.

This past weekend, the Spanish midfielder suffered a severe knee injury against Arsenal, and is now set to be sidelined for much of the rest of the campaign, although the duration if his absence is still to be confirmed.

While the Citizens have strength in depth, Rodri is one of their most prominent stars and it seems the Premier League champions are keen to find reinforcements for the remainder of the 2024/25 season.

According to teamTALK, the Sky Blues have four names in mind, and at the top of the list is Rodri's compatriot, and the man who replaced him as a substitute during the 2024 UEFA European Championship final, Martin Zubimendi.

The San Sebastian native was close to joining Liverpool during the off-season, but ultimately chose to stay at Real Sociedad, and City could be hoping they have better luck in attempting to lure the deep-lying playmaker to England.

Another star the English giants have reportedly been monitoring is Italy's Nico Barella. The Inter Milan midfielder is believed to be keen on making the move to the Etihad Stadium, but having just signed a new contract with the Nerazzurri, City may need to table a substantial offer in order to successfully secure his signature.

Barella is not the only Serie A star City reportedly view as a potential Rodri stand-in, with Atalanta's Ederson also believed to be on Pep Guardiola's radar.

While the aforementioned stars ply their trade outside of England, the Mancunians also have a midfielder they like in the English top flight, with the same report claiming that Adam Wharton of Crystal Palace has also made it on to the shortlist.
